The Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB) proudly announces the establishment of the NSBMB Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation, a landmark initiative that is one of the most ambitious developmental projects in the Society’s history.
Following the acquisition of one (1) hectare of land in Keffi, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, the Society has commenced plans to develop a world-class centre dedicated to scientific research, innovation, professional development, and institutional growth.
The Centre is envisioned as a nationally recognised hub that will promote excellence in biochemical and molecular biological sciences while supporting cutting-edge research, technology transfer, interdisciplinary collaboration, and capacity development for scientists across Nigeria and beyond.
A Message from the President
It is with profound gratitude to God, deep humility, and immense joy that I announce the acquisition of one (1) hectare of land in Keffi, Nasarawa State, for the establishment of the NSBMB Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation.
This historic achievement marks a defining moment in the evolution of our Society and demonstrates our collective commitment to building a stronger scientific community that can address national and global challenges through research, innovation, education, and collaboration.
The Centre belongs to every member of NSBMB. It is a legacy project that will benefit current and future generations of biochemists and molecular biologists.

Project Overview
The NSBMB Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation is conceived as a multidisciplinary scientific facility that will serve as the permanent institutional headquarters of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Beyond serving as the Society’s National Secretariat, the Centre will provide modern infrastructure
designed to facilitate high-quality scientific research, postgraduate training, professional development, innovation, and collaboration among researchers, academic institutions, government agencies, industry, and international partners.
The Centre reflects NSBMB’s long-term commitment to advancing scientific excellence and strengthening the role of biochemical and molecular biological sciences in national development.

The Centre is situated on a one-hectare parcel of land in Keffi, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, strategically located to facilitate accessibility for researchers, students, academics, and collaborators from across the country.

The final scope of facilities will be implemented in phases, subject to available resources and the Society’s approved development plan.
Project Development Phases
Development of the Centre will proceed in carefully planned stages.
Phase One
The first phase of the project includes:
• Construction of the perimeter fence.
• Main entrance gates.
• Security post.
• Site preparation and basic infrastructure.
Construction of Phase One is scheduled to commence before the end of July 2026.
Subsequent phases will include the construction of research laboratories, administrative buildings, training facilities, conference spaces, and other supporting infrastructure.
Funding the Vision
The realisation of this landmark project requires the collective commitment and support of members and
stakeholders.
During the 42nd Annual General Assembly of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB) held in Akure, Ondo State, Congress resolved that members should support the development of the Centre through monthly contributions over a period of twelve (12) months.
