The Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB) has appointed Professor Mohammed Auwal Ibrahim as the new Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Journal of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NJBMB), the official scholarly publication of the Society.

The transition was formally effected during the 42nd Annual Scientific Conference and General Assembly of the NSBMB, held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), where Professor Ismaila A. Umar, the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, officially handed over the leadership of the journal to Prof. Ibrahim.

Prof. Mohammed A. Ibrahim brings to the position extensive academic, research and scientific leadership experience. A Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria, he also serves as the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Research and Innovation of the University.

His academic and research training spans several internationally recognised institutions. He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pretoria. He also served as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellow at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Tsukuba, Japan.

Prior to his appointment as Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Ibrahim served as Deputy Editor (Production) of the NJBMB since June 2021, contributing to the journal’s editorial and production processes and gaining extensive experience in scholarly publishing and journal management. His elevation to the position of Editor-in-Chief is therefore expected to provide continuity while strengthening the journal’s commitment to publishing high-quality research in biochemistry and molecular biology.

In a related development, the NSBMB National Executive Council (NEC) has appointed Dr. Stanley Irobekhian Reuben Okoduwa, PhD, as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the NJBMB. The appointment was approved by the NEC on 21 June 2026.

Dr. Okoduwa has served as the Editorial Manager and Journal Administrator of the NJBMB since June 2021, where he has played a key role in supporting the journal’s editorial administration, publishing operations and overall workflow. His appointment as Deputy Editor-in-Chief represents a further recognition of his sustained contributions to the development and management of the Society’s journal.

A Medical Biochemist, Toxicologist, Research Management Professional and Scholarly Publishing Specialist, Dr. Okoduwa has extensive expertise spanning biomedical research, nutrition, toxicology, phytomedicine, research management and scientific publishing. He is currently a Research Fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria, Nigeria.

Dr. Okoduwa has also contributed significantly to higher education, scientific publishing and professional leadership. He previously served as Postgraduate Coordinator at Babcock University, Nigeria, and currently serves as Director of ICT of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB).

Beyond the NSBMB, he serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of World Nutrition, the official journal of the World Public Health Nutrition Association (WPHNA); Technical Managing Editor of ChemClass Journal, the official publication of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Zaria Chapter; and Guest Editor for Frontiers in Research Metrics and Analytics, Switzerland. He is also the Executive Project Director of SIRONigeria Global Limited, a scholarly publishing and research support organisation.

In addition, Dr. Okoduwa serves as Diocesan Communicator and Director of Media for the Anglican Diocese of Zaria, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), reflecting his broad engagement in professional, academic, scientific communication and institutional leadership.

The new editorial leadership team is expected to build on the achievements of the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Ismaila A. Umar, while advancing the Nigerian Journal of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology towards greater visibility, editorial excellence, research integrity and international recognition.

The NSBMB congratulates Prof. Mohammed A. Ibrahim on his appointment as Editor-in-Chief and Dr. Stanley I.R. Okoduwa on his appointment as Deputy Editor-in-Chief.
